It employs around 600 staff.

Main areas of employment

Council provides employment opportunities across a wide range of areas. There are jobs for people who like working outdoors to create a better environment, jobs working with people of different ages and cultural backgrounds and jobs planning services that will shape the community in the future.

Council is divided into 4 major business areas:

• Community Services
  Communication and cultural services, community development, family and children's services, recreation and libraries
   
• Corporate Services
  Administration, legal, finance, human resources and information technology
   
• Development and Environmental Services
  Health and building inspections, environmental monitoring, town planning and strategic planning
   
• Technical Services
  Engineering and civil works, maintenance, property management, landscaping, waste and recycling, parks reserves

Some positions require professional qualifications and some don't.
