Marrickville Council offers a free clean up service 52 weeks of the year; all you need to do is make a booking online or contact the Citizens' Service Centre on 9335 2137.
To allow Marrickville Council to recycle where possible, this service is provided in four separate categories:
1. General clean up
2. White goods/Metal goods collection
3. Green waste
4. Mattress recycling collection
You may book either collection, but there will be different collection days for either type of collection. You will be given the date of your collection at the time of booking, which will normally be the following week.
When booking a Whitegoods/Metal goods collection, you will need to place it out on the next available Monday night as advised by the operator. Collection will take place to four days from that Monday. For a general clean up, mattress or green waste collection, the operator will advise the collection day at time of booking. You need to ensure items are placed out neatly the night before.
Marrickville Council is about to embark on a 12 month mattress recycling initiative in conjunction with Dreamsafe, a mattress cleaning and recycling company that collects mattresses, cleans them and redistributes them to charity, or recycles them as a last resort.
Between Monday 2 November and Friday 29 October 2010, all mattresses in the Marrickville Local Government Area will be collected by the Dreamsafe team. Please note that all other items placed on the kerbside will be collected by the Marrickville Council Resource Recovery team as usual. This includes: general cleanup, metal/whitegoods collection and bulky green waste.
To do your bit, when making a booking for a clean up, tell the Citizen Service Officer if you have a mattress that you no longer want so it can be booked separately. If making the booking online be sure to use the "mattress" category and specify in the description of waste the number of mattresses you would like us to collect and from what location: front, rear or side of your property.
Marrickville Council is committed to increasing resource recovery by implementing initiatives to help reduce waste ending up in landfill.
