Tips for avoiding theft from cars

Marrickville Council has delivered a innovative program to address theft from motor vehicles in the area following a grant from the NSW Attorney General's Department Crime Prevention.

The project was in collaboration with Marrickville and Newtown Local Area Commands and implemented an education campaign and the application of "Crime Prevention through Environmental Design", a design approach used to create environments promoting resident safety and securities, to reduce steal from motor vehicle offences.

Reporting theft

It is also very important to report all instances of theft and/or malicious damage to the police, so that they and Council know where to focus their resources. Crimes can be reported by calling:

  • 000 for critical instances;
  • the Police Assistance line on 131 444 for non urgent matters;
  • Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if you wish to remain anonymous; or
  • by visiting your local area command, Marrickville Police (89-101 Despointes Street, Marrickville) or Newtown Police (222 Australia Street, Newtown).
