Baby Rhymetime

Baby Rhymetime introduces babies and toddlers to the joys of literature and language and helps them to develop the skills they need to learn to read and communicate. It is suitable for babies 0 - 2 years.  

Baby Rhyme Time has limited places available and bookings are essential.

If you call and receive our voicemail simply leave a short message with your contact number and child’s name. Staff will contact you if there is no place available. English Conversation Classes

Come along to English conversation classes to improve your spoken English. Have fun and make friends while chatting in English to learn about Australian values and other cultures. This program is proudly presented in cooperation with Mission Australia. 

Classes run during school terms. Free for library members over 18 years to join.

For anyone who has started a family history or have hit a wall in their research, or want to find out more about a relative who worked and lived in Marrickville -  Marrickville Library and History Services have assistance available to help people start off, extend or complete their local history and genealogy research.

Whether it’s Marrickville local history, or researching ancestors, brick pits, cemeteries or churches in Marrickville or beyond, History Services may be able to help.
Staff from the History Services team are available in the Local Studies section of Marrickville Library.

Knit Together is a chance to knit or crochet something for yourself, for a friend or to make squares for the Wrap With Love Project. Wrap With Love provides handmade wraps to victims of natural disasters, war and poverty.

Patterns for the wraps are available and require 8 ply wool and number 8 needles (4mm). Bring your own wool or use ours. Refreshments are provided, but please bring a mug. No bookings required.

Bike Marrickville

Bike Marrickville is a local community and bicycle user group that aims to create an improved environment for people who cycle in the Marrickville area and enable people of all abilities to cycle for transport and recreation. Members ride around the inner west, city and Cooks River Valley. The group, which is affiliated with Bicycle NSW, meets monthly on the third Tuesday of each month at Marrickville Library.

Craft Social Group

The Craft Social Group is an opportunity to learn new crafts, meet friends and socialise with people from different cultures. Crafts that will be taught include beading, embroidery, cross stitch, candle wicking and patchwork quilting. The Craft Social Group will meet fortnightly on Wednesdays 10am – 1pm at Marrickville Library.

Storytime at the Magic Yellow Bus

Positive Life NSW works to promote a positive image of people living with and affected by HIV with the aim of eliminating prejudice, isolation, stigmatisation and discrimination. Hellenic Book Club

Marrickville Library Service established the first Hellenic Book Club in Australia, which aims to showcase and discuss books that promote Greek literature and history. The club provides book lovers with an opportunity to read and discuss various themes and views expressed in the selected book of the month.

Literature of Greek interest, as well as works by Greek-Australian authors, are presented and discussed to highlight the constantly growing literary scene both in Australia and in Greece.

Bike Marrickville

Bike Marrickville is a local community and bicycle user group that aims to create an improved environment for people who cycle in the Marrickville area and enable people of all abilities to cycle for transport and recreation. Members ride around the inner west, city and Cooks River Valley. The group, which is affiliated with Bicycle NSW, meets monthly on the third Tuesday of each month at Marrickville Library.

Walking Tour: Enmore

Named after Enmore House which was built by Sylvester Browne in 1835, the suburb of Enmore was home to a number of grand colonial homesteads including Reiby House, Stanmore House and Thurnby. With the original tram line travelling down Enmore Road, the suburb developed into a significant shopping and residential district. This walking tour from Enmore Park to Newtown Station will reveal exciting aspects of Enmore, from nineteenth century shopfronts to Stanmore House.

This walking tour begins from the Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre.

Marrickville Library Service established the first Hellenic Book Club in Australia, which aims to showcase and discuss books that promote Greek literature and history. Walking Tour: Sites of Connection

A research project exposing multiple aspects of the Marrickville LGA’s religious communities is currently being undertaken by Marrickville Library and History Services. Combining site research and community interviews, the project is unveiling the role that churches, mosques, synagogues and associated sites have played in the formation of Marrickville’s communities.

This walking tour will focus on sites in the suburb of Marrickville, including St Nicholas’s Greek Orthodox Church, St Clements Church, to St Brigids Catholic Church and Lien Hao Temple. It will illustrate the importance of place and community.

Baby Rhymetime introduces babies and toddlers to the joys of literature and language and helps them to develop the skills they need to learn to read and communicate. It is suitable for babies 0 - 2 years.

Bike Marrickville

Bike Marrickville is a local community and bicycle user group that aims to create an improved environment for people who cycle in the Marrickville area and enable people of all abilities to cycle for transport and recreation. Members ride around the inner west, city and Cooks River Valley. The group, which is affiliated with Bicycle NSW, meets monthly on the third Tuesday of each month at Marrickville Library.

Craft Social Group

The Craft Social Group is an opportunity to learn new crafts, meet friends and socialise with people from different cultures. Crafts that will be taught include beading, embroidery, cross stitch, candle wicking and patchwork quilting. The Craft Social Group will meet fortnightly on Wednesdays 10am – 1pm at Marrickville Library.
