Free Booked Clean Up Service

Marrickville Council offers a free clean up service 52 weeks of the year; all you need to do is make a booking online or contact the Citizens' Service Centre on 9335 2137.

The Resource Recovery team is working on a new strategy to increase community re-use and recycling of waste - however, residents should be conscious that most waste collected in the general clean up category ends up in landfill. In the interim, please consider alternative options for disposing of household items before booking in your collection.

To allow Marrickville Council to recycle where possible, this service is provided in four separate categories:

1. General clean up
2. White goods/Metal goods collection
3. Green waste
4. Mattress recycling collection

You may book either collection, but there will be different collection days for either type of collection. You will be given the date of your collection at the time of booking, which will normally be the following week.

When booking a Whitegoods/Metal goods collection, you will need to place it out on the next available Monday night as advised by the operator. Collection will take place to four days from that Monday. For a general clean up, mattress or green waste collection, the operator will advise the collection day at time of booking. You need to ensure items are placed out neatly the night before.

Mattress Recycling Collection

Marrickville Council is conducting a mattress-recycling initiative in conjunction with Landsavers who collects mattresses, clean, sanitise and redistribute them to charity - or recycle them as a last resort.

All mattresses in the Marrickville Council area will be collected and recycled by the Landsavers team. Please note that all other items placed on the kerbside will be collected by the Marrickville Council Resource Recovery team as usual. This includes: general cleanup, metal/whitegoods collection and bulky green waste.

To do your bit, when making a booking for a clean up, tell the Customer Service Officer if you have a mattress that you no longer want so it can be booked separately. If making the booking online yourself be sure to use the "mattress" category and specify in the "description of waste" the number of mattresses you would like us to collect and from what location: front, rear or side of your property. Please note that a maximum of 3 mattresses per collection are permitted. If you have more, please book them in subsequent weeks.

Mattresses will be collected within a 48-hour period. There may be some delays due to wet weather and public holidays. Please note that Landsavers do not collect mattresses that are within your property and do not work on weekends.

If you would like to cancel your booking, please contact Council on 9335 2222.

Marrickville Council is committed to increasing resource recovery by implementing initiatives to help reduce waste ending up in landfill. For more information, please contact Council's Environment Officer - Resource Projects on 9335 2222.
