In a move that will make history records available to more people in the community, Council's history services and collections have been relocated to Marrickville Library. The collections are now accessible for extended opening hours and at more locations, with book and ephemera collections specific to each area having been transferred to each of the four library branches. Council is also committed to developing its historical and heritage programs and collections, and is currently recruiting for key personnel to facilitate this.

  

History Collections

Marrickville Library and History services maintains and provides access to research collection and cultural heritage material. Our research collection includes books, microforms, research files, newspapers, and databases. Our cultural heritage collection includes objects, community archives, photographs and oral histories. Local History and Past Exhibition

Marrickville’s history is one of change and adaptation, from Aboriginal hunting lands, to gentry estates to today diverse community. House Histories

Marrickville Library and History Services encourage and support individual research into house histories within the Marrickville Local Government Area. Access to Council Archives is essential for completing research on house histories. This can be arranged by appointment. Please contact (02) 9335 2185 for more information.

 

 

Donations and Rare Items

Marrickville Library and History Services maintain a range of donations and rare items, some of which were donated by community members.

Some of these items are stored off-site, or have restricted access as specified by individual donors. It is possible to access some of these materials by appointment. Please call 9335 2132 for more information.
