Musicians wanted! Volunteers to play in local nursing homes
Have you ever considered volunteering your talent to bring a smile to residents at your local nursing home?
Marrickville Council is running a program to link entertainers and musicians with local nursing homes. This is a volunteer program and we are seeking local musicians who may be willing to donate their talent to perform in a nursing home. It could be one performance a month, a week, or a one-off performance. Guitarists, singers, pianists, all musicians are welcome.
Research shows the profound benefits music can have on those living in care facilities - including elevated mood, increased socialisation, appetite and reduction in agitation. For the musician, volunteering can lead to a greater sense of fulfilment and purpose, while at the same time providing an audience for practice.
A list of residential care facilities is attached. Each facility is highly enthusiastic about the program, and would love to hear from any musicians willing to donate their time.
