Weed Control
Marrickville Council currently maintains 233 km of road network throughout the Local Government Area (LGA). Part of this maintenance includes weed control.
Council currently undertakes two weed control operations between the months of September and May each year to keep weeds at an acceptable service level. It takes approximately 22 working days to complete one treatment of the LGA with effects visible between 7 and 10 days after treatment depending on the weather. The proposed schedule for 2012-13 is September, November, January, March and May. This can vary due to seasonal changes and prevalent weather conditions.
The first operation uses steam treatment at nominated sensitive and commercial areas, whilst the other operation uses ClearUp 360 (glyphosate based) for the remainder of the LGA.
Council offers residents, who do not wish Council to chemically treat weeds adjacent to there property, an option to be included on Council's "no-spray" list. Should you wish not to have weeds treated outside your premises please write to Council asking to be included on this list together with the address of the property. Council will then add your premises to the list and paint red triangles at each side of your boundary to notify the weed control crew when undertaking future weed treatments.
