Marrickville Youth Week Program
5–19 April 2012
Marrickville Council has been celebrating young people since the Marrickville Festival of Youth in 1958. Council has also been a signatory to the NSW Government's Youth Week program since its inception in 1991. Youth Week is planned and facilitated by Marrickville Council, Marrickville's Youth Council, and supported by numerous local organisations and young people.
Youth Week 2013 will be celebrated through a range of events and activities from 5–19 April.
The theme for 2013 is: Be Active – Be Happy – Be You.
During Youth Week 2013 celebrations, young people will have the opportunity to:
- Raise issues, ideas, and concerns;
- Develop strategies to address these and other important issues;
- Increase the communities awareness of young people and their significant issues and;
- Promote young people's contribution to the community.

XPOZED 9 Youth Art Exhibition
Monday 15 April 2013 to Friday 19 April 2013, 11am–4pm daily
This is a youth art exhibition incorporating a range of art based workshops, diverse range of artistic samples, short films from local young people and Art Express, design competition about ““ Be Active – Be Happy – Be You” from the young people of Marrickville Local Government Area and the inner west.
Xpozed 9 is being organised by Marrickville Council and in partnership with Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design (DHVAD).
This exhibition will also display information for parents and young people about local youth services, their current recreational and support programs. There will also be fact sheets and resources about recreation projects, drugs, mental health, and employment and education programs.
During Xpozed 9 there will be a range of art workshops provided at the gallery. These are listed below. On the final day of the exhibition a number of Peoples' Choice awards will be presented.

XPOZED on the Road – youth art exhibition in the public domain
Monday 8 April 2013 – Friday 12 April 2013, 10am–5pm daily
XPOZED on the Road is a public youth art exhibition which engages with local shopping strip businesses and community facilities to showcase local young art samples on the front windows and walls of public/business locations such as cafés, retail and other shop fronts throughout the LGA. Maps will be available at the various locations where arts will be displayed. Some of this selection will be incorporated into the XPOZED 9 Youth Art Exhibition at Seaview gallery the following week.
A diverse range of artistic samples from local young people profiling the theme "Be Active – Be Happy – Be You" and or competition will be incorporated. There will be a number of Peoples' Choice awards presented on the final day of the Xpozed 9 exhibition on 19 April 2013.

XPOZED 9 – art based creative workshops
Monday 15 April 2013 – Friday 19 April 2013
These workshops are supported by the Marrickville Youth Resource Centre and Marrickville Youth Council.
Workshops will create artworks based around based on the 3 topics highlighted in the Youth Week 2013 theme.
Monday 15 April, 11.30am–2.30pm: Mini Sculpture utilising recycled material relating to the Theme for Youth Week
Tuesday 16 April, 11am–1pm: Music Business workshop: How to get your music 'out there' and progress from making music at home to performing, touring and releasing CDs with a panel of music industry specialists. (please Note: this is being run at the Marrickville Youth Resource Centre at Jarvie Park, Yabsley Avenue, Marrickville)
Wednesday 17 April, 1pm–4pm: Film/expression workshop with Al Poulet from Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design. Phone 0402 733 116 for more information.
Friday 19 April, 11am–5pm: Creativity workshop and presentation of awards.

Watch Your Head – music, band and performance night and showcase
Friday 12 April 2013, 4.00pm–10.30pm
This is a free live music event being organised by Marrickville Youth Council with support from Marrickville Youth Resource Centre (MYRC) and Marrickville Council. The event is proudly supported by the Marrickville Community Drug Action Team. The event is promoted as a No Alcohol, No Drugs event.
There will be 6 local youth bands and performers as well as a number of 'free mic' opportunities for performing. There will be food and refreshments provided. Before the performances various local youth agencies will run interactive activities and showcase the programs and activities they provide for young people.
Performance line up includes: Your Weight in Gold, Mirrah, Obviously Your Superhero, Chicanery, Death Note, Lazy J and Big Guy (as seen on X-factor), MC Buxx, Soul Benefits

Marrickville Youth Week Day of Sport: Be Active, Be Happy, Be You
Thursday 18 April 2013, 11am–4pm
This is a free sports day and clinics being organised by Marrickville Youth Council, Marrickville Council and PCYC. This is supported by Weave Street Beat program, Barnardos Streetwork, Greater Western Sydney Giants AFL and Marrickville Youth Resource Centre (MYRC). There will be a range of sports, clinics and recreational activities. There will be a free lunch and refreshments provided.

Youth Week Seminar: Youth Services and Libraries Working Together
Tuesday 9 April 2013, 9.30am–1.30pm
This seminar is being organised by the Inner West Youth and Marrickville Youth interagencies. It will feature a presentation by the State Library and another successful youth library program.
The aim is to inform services about types of projects and activities for young people implemented by the various libraries. This will also provide an opportunity for libraries to understand the range of community based youth services and identify opportunities for future joint projects.
This seminar will be interactive and encourage greater dialogue and ideas about how local youth services can improve the ways they collaborate with Council facilities such as libraries.
The outcome of the day is: to increase or improve the range of services and activities available for young people; share information and knowledge about new programs which exist across the region; and also make youth services more aware of the programs and resources available in libraries.
