The Cooks River is under threat from a range of pollution sources - industry, commercial businesses and residents.

Each year 1,600 tonnes of litter, 150,000 litres of oil, 10,000 tones of sediment (sand, soil, etc) and unknown quantities of chemicals pour from our streets into the river. This can result in fish kills, as was the case in 1997 in the upper reaches of Cooks River.
