Amongst the gravestones in Camperdown Cemetery is a remnant
of Kangaroo Grassland which was the understorey of the
Turpentine-Ironbark Forest once predominant in the area.
The Friends of Camperdown Cemetery have been conducting
working bees every month for almost a year. Their restoration
work has encouraged the regeneration of the native grasses
found here and also maintained the historic graveyard
plantings.
In November 2002 the Natural Heritage Trust announced
continued funding of the project until December 2003. The
project is supported by Marrickville Council as well as the
Camperdown Cemetery Trust, Marrickville Heritage Society,
Greening Australia and the Natural Heritage Trust. |
