NAIDOC Week Celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Everybody in the community is invited to join us in celebrating NAIDOC Week with the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people of Marrickville.

NAIDOC Luncheon

Tuesday 8 July 2008, 11am - 3pm
Petersham Town Hall, 107 Crystal Street, Petersham

Join us for food and refreshments and live entertainment, featuring Koori line dancers, and a live performance from Buddy Knox. Bookings are essential for catering purposes.

NAIDOC Week Celebrations at the Addison Road Centre

Wednesday 9 July 2008, 10:30am - 2:30pm
Addison Road Centre
142 Addison Road, Marrickville

An action-packed schedule of cultural activities including traditional dance lessons with the Yidaki Didg and Dance group, bush tucker classes, totem pole painting, plays and stories. Join us at 12 noon for a ceremony and BBQ lunch, with sausages, bush tucker and drinks for sale. Please see the flyer below for a timetable and event details:

The Addison Road Gallery will also be exhibiting works by New South Wales indigenous artists from the 8th until the 27th of July.

 

Koori Kids Disco

Indigenous Storytelling

Jaluka Rose Quinlin presents an evening of indigenous storytelling at Marrickville Library. People of all ages welcome!

 

Creative Indigenous Jewellery Making

Thursday 10 July 2008, 6pm - 9pm
Marrickville Central Library, Corner Petersham and Marrickville Rds

Kids 10 and older are welcome to join Joanne Timor for a fun workshop at Marrickville Library, learning to make jewellery using Indigenous colours.

 

Marrickville Short Black Film Festival

Friday 11 July 2008, 5pm - 8pm
Petersham Town Hall, 107 Crystal Street, Petersham

Launch and screening for the DVD "You Got Me Wrong". Also features a screening of "Wanja" including a Q&A session with director Angie Abdilla, and additional short films.

Children's art at Marrickville Library and branch libraries

Marrickville Library Service will be hosting a display of children's art work and stories from our local schools throughout NAIDOC Week 2008. Marrickville, Dulwich Hill, Stanmore and St Peters/Sydenham libraries will all have a selection on display. The theme for the art work and stories is "A whole new page, a whole new book". This art project has been organised by Marrickville Residents for Reconciliation.
