Artist Opportunities

Marrickville is rich in artistic and cultural capital. Our area contains one of the highest percentages of artists, cultural workers and arts industries of any local government area in Australia. In addition, Marrickville is considered by many to be the birthplace of multiculturalism in Australia and the artistic traditions from countries such as Vietnam, Greece, China, Lebanon and Portugal, among others, form part of the tapestry of the artistic and cultural life of Marrickville.

2008 Grants for Arts & Culture

Marrickville Council is currently calling for applications for funding under the Marrickville Cultural Festival Grants and Arts & Cultural Grants Programs, with funding up to $5,000 available for suitable arts and cultural projects that contribute to the diversity of the Marrickville local government area.

An information session for prospective applicants to determine which of these two grant programs best suit your project will be held at:

Artist Residency Program

The Local and National Artist Residency Program contributes to the ongoing development of Marrickville's relationships with local, regional NSW and interstate artists and assists local and national collaborations. The Residency Program is supported by the Addison Road Centre through the supply of a studio space.

Previous local, national and international artist residency recipients

Julie Chou was Council's first international exchange artist and stayed in the Petersham Town Hall Artist Residence from March to April 2004. Check out what Julie Chou did while she was here and what she is doing now in Taiwan.

Since 2004 Marrickville Council has hosted a range of artists from across the USA, South America, the Middle East, Asia and Russia. Some of the artists that have stayed in the residency are:
