Artist Opportunities

Marrickville is rich in artistic and cultural capital. Our area contains one of the highest percentages of artists, cultural workers and arts industries of any local government area in Australia. In addition, Marrickville is considered by many to be the birthplace of multiculturalism in Australia and the artistic traditions from countries such as Vietnam, Greece, China, Lebanon and Portugal, among others, form part of the tapestry of the artistic and cultural life of Marrickville.

Expression of Interest for Marrickville Mural - Embracing Identity, Diversity and Safety

Marrickville Council is currently calling for Expressions of Interest for artists in the local community to design a large mural artwork that will reflect the value of diversity in the Marrickville local government area and specifically promotes our gay and lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (GLBTI) communities. Under the working title Embracing Identity Diversity and Safety, the artwork aims to create awareness of, and promote the inclusion, safety and active participation of the GLBTI community in the Marrickville area.

The successful applicant will be selected by the Marrickville Council Public Art Reference Group with representation from Council’s Gay and Lesbian Liaison at Marrickville (GLL@M) Committee, which is the sponsor of the project. Selection of the winning artist for the mural project is expected to be completed by November 2009.
