Youth Council

Council established a Youth Council in December 1996 to provide an opportunity for young people in the Marrickville area to express their views on, and contribute to, the development of the local community.

The objectives of the Marrickville Youth Council are to:

• ensure that young people in the Marrickville area are able to express their views on issues affecting them and the local area;
• develop an appreciation within the community of young people, their contribution to the local area and the issues concerning them; and
• provide advice to Council on the needs of, and issues affecting, young people.

The Youth Council undertakes a number of activities including:

• organisation of Youth Week activities;
• development of other initiatives including youth events and advocating on issues of  concern to local young people; and
• contribution to the development and conduct of Marrickville Council's Youth Services and other relevant Council events and initiatives.
