Marrickville is a diverse and friendly community situated only 10km from the centre of Sydney.

Marrickville has a traditional main street - Marrickville Road - with a range of places to eat and shop, including Vietnamese restaurants, continental delicatessens and haberdashery shops.

This suburb is a great place to live, work and visit. Many people are attracted to the area because of its convenience, inner-city character and multicultural atmosphere.

Marrickville also has an interesting history. It was traditionally a predominantly Greek community, and is now home to a variety of cultures, including a strong Vietnamese presence.

Events

The Cooks River Sustainability & Arts Festival at Steel Park, Marrickville, features free live entertainment, interesting workshops and displays, arts and information stalls with a focus on sustainability and the environment.

Back to Marrickville Road is an annual historical photographic exhibition held in Alex Trevallion Plaza, Marrickville, every November. The photographs give citizens an insight into the history of Marrickville Road, and Marrickville Council’s Historian is on hand to share historical tales about the area.

Getting to Marrickville

Buses

Trains

Marrickville Railway Station is on the Bankstown line of CityRail's suburban network, and is situated on Illawarra Road. There are regular services to the Sydney CBD and southwestern suburbs. For timetables, network maps and more information please visit the CityRail website.

Marrickville Main Street Program

Marrickville Main Street is a Committee of Marrickville Council which meets monthly and represents the businesses on Marrickville, Illawarra and Victoria Roads. The Committee is made up of local business operators who work to foster economic and cultural development and maintain Marrickville's unique character by:

• Organising events and promotions to raise awareness of the Marrickville shopping strip; and
• Conducting marketing campaigns to encourage residents to support local businesses.
