Petersham
Skip to the following section: Petersham has developed a distinctive identity thanks to its Portuguese influences. Petersham has a strong Portuguese community who consider the suburb to be their own little piece of Portugal. In fact, Petersham is also known as ‘Little Portugal’. Petersham is home to many Portuguese restaurants, cafés and takeaway shops in New Canterbury Road and Audley Street, where you can buy delicacies ranging from traditional Portuguese chicken to delicious Portuguese tarts. Adding to the Portuguese flavour is a contemporary mural in Audley Street, Petersham made from traditional Portuguese hand painted tiles. The mural was made by artist Luis Geraldes in 2003 and is titled Fragile World in Constant Expansion. Services and Amenities
EventsThe Bairro Português Food & Wine Fair is held every year in March in Audley and Fisher Streets, Petersham. This vibrant street festival features contemporary and traditional Portuguese-themed entertainment, as well as food, wine and information stalls. Getting to Petersham

TrainsPetersham railway station is on the Inner West and South railway line networks. There are frequent services to the Sydney CBD and western suburbs. Petersham Main Street ProgramPetersham Main Street is a Committee of Marrickville Council which represents the businesses in the Petersham shopping district. The Petersham Main Street Committee works to make the Petersham shopping area a vibrant and interesting shopping strip for locals and visitors. The Committee meets monthly and is made up of local business operators who work to foster economic and cultural development and maintain Petersham’s unique character by:
