Marrickville Festival of Youth 2008

The draft program for celebrating Marrickville Council’s Fifty Years of Continuous Support for Youth Week – celebrating our young people 1958-2008 is at the timetabling stage. A draft timetable of the activities and events is included for your information. The finalised Youth Week 2008 program will be available in February.

  • 26 January - Australia Day celebrations at Enmore Park
  • 21 January - Koori Radio youth programs commence and run throughout 2008
February
  • Beginning of February (dates tbc) - Commencement of the Landcare Project by Council’s Environmental Services Division
  • Beginning of February (during term 1 of school year) - Launch of writing and photography competition at Marrickville Library.
March
  • Art and Photographic Workshops at the Marrickville Youth Resource Centre
  • Art Week Celebrations at Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design (DHSVAD)
  • 7 March - International Women’s Day
April
  • 4 April - Official Launch of 50 Years of Continuous Support for Youth Week celebrations at Petersham Town Hall incorporating historical display;

Youth Week 2008 in Marrickville from 25 March – 16 April 2008

  • 25 March to 11 April - Xpozed IV Youth Art Exhibition at DHSVAD
  • 5 April - Bounce Dance Party at the Debbie and Abbey Borgia Community Recreation Centre (DABCRC)
  • 13 April - Skateboard Competition and live performances at Jack Shanahan Park
  • Week beginning 6 April - Oztag Competition organised by the Aboriginal Children Youth and Family Strategy - and
  • 8 April to 24 April - .Library activities and workshops including jewellery making, screen printing/stencilling, trivia night and Asian cooking
  • 13 April - Cooks River Festival incorporating young artists and performers on;
  • 14 April to 25 April - School Holiday Program at Libraries and MYRC; and
  • Launch of new colourful Marrickville Youth Services Directory and Information Card during Youth Week
May
  • 19 May to 25 May - Library Week celebration
June
  • 15 June - All Nations Indoor Soccer Cup at the DABCRC
  • 15 to 22 June - Art Exhibition during Refugee Week
