Clr Sam Iskandar arrived in Marrickville in 1977 from Lebanon. He has lived and worked in the Marrickville area since his arrival. Sam is married with six children and this is his third term as a Councillor. Sam has a Diploma of Physical Education and he is also a language teacher.
As a Councillor, Sam is actively involved in all areas of Council's responsibility with a strong focus on community development, promoting a variety of essential projects across the municipality.
Sam has chaired numerous Council committees that have provided him with a clear awareness and sense of where needs exist across the municipality and the ability to guide improved community outcomes. Sam is dedicated to Marrickville Council continuing its commitment to ensuring equitable services and facilities, and towards ensuring a sustainable future for all residents and businesses.
His areas of interest include the youth, environmental sustainability, social justice, peace and harmony, education, and advocating the interests of the Marrickville community at a local, state and federal level. Sam will keep working with people at all levels and is committed to the best interests of the community being central to all Council decisions.
As well as being a member of Marrickville Council, Sam is an active member on various committees for the Arabic community and youth and sporting clubs.
