Morris Hanna is in his third term as an Independent Councillor elected to South Ward.
Morris has been a local businessman for over thirty years and in his experience says that Marrickville keeps improving.
As President of Marrickville Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Marrickville Mainstreet Committee he has strong ties with the area.
Morris joined Council to assist in making positive changes to the Marrickville area.
In January 2006, Morris was awarded an Order of Australian Medal in the Australian Day Honours list for service of the community of Marrickville, particularly through local government and the Egyptian Coptic Church.
He served as Mayor of Marrickville from March 2004 to September 2005, and from September 2006 to September 2007.
During his two terms as Mayor, he initiated two Mayoral Charity Dinner Dances to raise money for local charities. The 2005 event raised almost $59,000 and the 2007 event raised almost $65,500.
Morris was also awarded the Paul Harris Fellow in 2007, which is awarded by the Rotary Club in appreciation of people who make a significant contribution to improving the world and improving relations between people.
Morris is married with three children and enjoys all sports particularly basketball and has represented Egypt in first grade basketball. He continuous to play every Saturday in a Greek - Egyptian team.
During the Sydney Olympics in 2000 Morris was a Protocol Assistant for Kuwait to the IOC and NOC. |
