Marrickville is home to young and old, rich and poor, straight and gay. Some in our community have come from around the corner and some have come from across the world to make Marrickville their home. Marrickville exemplifies the working class and multicultural traditions of urban Australia. It is a living example of what a diverse, inclusive and creative community looks like.

As a Marrickville Councillor Penny is committed to working with the local community to defend and enhance the things that make Marrickville the best place in Sydney to live.

Penny wants Marrickville Council to be the best and most dynamic council in NSW. With excellent services, responsive local government, sustainable practices and a commitment to social justice for all who live and work here

Penny supports:

  • supporting strong, diverse and vibrant communities through Council activities and services
  • a greater focus on affordable housing
  • planning public and green spaces that encourage community interaction, participation and use for all members of the community
  • supporting sustainable water, air and land us through local environment initiatives
  • ensuring Council provides value for money and is responsive and accessible to ratepayers through transparent decision making, consultation and efficient service delivery

Personal
Penny has lived in the Marrickville area for 11 years with her partner Jo. She has two children aged 9 and 3.

Penny is a Labor Member of the NSW Legislative Council as well as being a local councillor. Previously she has been a policy advisor in the areas of Vocational Education and Training, Community Support and Development, Youth, Juvenile Justice, Drug and Alcohol Policy.
