Marrickville Council’s key goal is to be a responsive, innovative and efficient Council that exercises leadership and builds community strength. In doing so, Council is looking to fulfil its vision for Marrickville to be a great place for all people, in keeping with the Marrickville Community Plan 2025.
In keeping with this goal, Council's services operate under a Citizen Service Charter that outlines our commitments to the community and the standards applied across Council in meeting them.

Social planning, delivery of food services and social support programs and working with youth, the aged, our culturally diverse community, indigenous Australians and those with a disability to build community capacity and sense of belonging. |

Children & Family Services |
Direct provision of early childhood services, including long day care and out of school hours care, middle childhood vacation care and recreational activities and mobile Magic Yellow Bus service for pre-school children, as well as administration of a Family Day Care network of services. |
| Community Facilities & Recreation |
Recreational planning and management of lease/hire arrangements for Council’s aquatic facilities, the Debbie and Abbey Borgia Community Recreation Centre, town halls, community halls and meeting places. |

Communication & Cultural Services |
Arts and Cultural development for the visual, performing and public arts, including the management of galleries, artists’ residences and entertainment precincts; coordination and delivery of Council events and celebrations including Australia Day and the Marrickville Festival; communication and public relations and co-ordination of Council’s Main Street programs. |
| Environmental Services |
Developing and implementing sustainability strategies and engaging with the community, local schools, businesses and adjoining councils to protect and enhance the local environment through education programs and joint projects; set and review Council’s own environmental management practices. |
| History Program |
Management of the History Centre holding resources representing the social, cultural and physical history of the Council area and the provision of advice and information. |
| Library Service |
Provision of a central and branch library network offering reader and outreach services, as well as information and collection services. |
| Monitoring Services |
Maintenance of public health through inspection of food handling outlets, skin penetration premises, cooling towers, funeral facilities and public swimming pools. Monitoring of compliance with building codes, consent conditions and fire safety standards. Provision of rangers to investigate public concerns regarding nuisance, dangerous dogs, abandoned vehicles and water issues, as well as the maintenance of a safe, clean, equitable and accessible environment. |
| Parks and Reserves |
Planning and design of community land as parks and reserves as active recreational and sporting areas and for passive recreation use and management of the community’s tree stock. |
| Planning Services |
Strategic urban planning investigations and analysis, creation and maintenance of planning controls to guide development on future land use and development, processing of Development Applications and development of sustainable transport policies. |
| Engineering Services |
Planning, design and maintenance of community infrastructure, including roads, lanes, footpaths, bridges, drainage, street landscaping, signage and furniture. |
| Development Assessment |
Assessing applications to construct new buildings, alter or make additions to buildings, subdivide land, change the use of a building or carry out other types of development. |
| Council Services |
Facilitating the development of the Marrickville Community Plan, Council’s Strategic Plan and Annual Management Plan, managing Council’s finances and information technology, providing people management, legal and business unit services, supporting Elected Council, providing governance and administrative services, organising Citizenship ceremonies and co-ordinating frontline telephone, counter and information services to citizens. |
