Council Staff

Councils do a lot of different things to keep your local area running. To carry out the decisions made by the elected council, Marrickville Council employs a number of staff. These people are not elected but appointed. They are paid for their work.

Marrickville Council employs approximately 600 staff. The range of people employed includes administrative staff, building inspectors, childcare workers, education officers, engineers, environmental managers, gardeners, garbage collectors, librarians, town planners and others.

Responsibilities to:

  • coordinate local library, family, safety, recreation, and waste services;
  • maintain community facilities such as pools, halls, parks, bicycle routes;
  • maintain our civic assets such as roads, footpaths, stormwater drains;
  • improve community life through support of arts and culture and events; 
  • set standards for safe and responsible community behaviours;  
  • provide support to particular groups such as young people and seniors;  
  • encourage local business and economic development such as tourism; and 
  • provide education, skills, advocacy and forums for citizen involvement
