Parks and Reserves

Marrickville Council operates an annual Parks and Reserves capital works program that includes a Parks Improvement program, a Playground Improvement Program, Parks Infrastructure Program and Major Parks Projects. In 2009, Council will also complete a range of parks improvements as part of the Australian Government's Community Infrastructure Program.

Enmore Park upgrade for 2010

The upgrade of the Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre will be accompanied by a $500,000 revamp to the Enmore Park playground, picnic area and pool surrounds. 

The work includes a new playground located with the existing rocket slide, upgrading of the picnic and barbeque facilities and construction of a new turf terrace and steps adjoining the proposed aquatic centre and cafe.

Community consultation on plans for the work was undertaken in May and June 2009. Construction is scheduled for 2010 following a detailed design and tender process.  

Mackey Park Refurbishment

Site investigations and remediation planning is underway. The playground and a portion of the sports ground have been closed due site contamination. A masterplan review is being undertaken following recent community consultation and is to be reported to Council.  

Arlington Reserve Synthetic Surface

A feasibility study and report to Council are being prepared following recent community consultations.

Upcoming parks projects to commence in late 2009 and early 2010 are:

  • Tempe Lands
    New park construction at South Street, Tempe Lands
     
  • Tempe Reserve Picnic Area Upgrade
    Rectification following completion of Sydney Water desalination pipeline
     
  • Johnson Park
    Playground decorative fencing
     
  • Steel Park
    Playground upgrade

Recently completed works

Recently completed parks projects include:

  • Ness Park
    New playground safety fencing.
     
  • Playground Shade Structures
    New playground shade structures have been installed at ODea Reserve, Morton Park, Simpson Park, Ryan Park and McNeilly Park.
