Bus shelter replacement program

Council has engaged Adshel Pty Ltd to complete a bus shelter replacement program. This involves the provision and installation of new bus shelters – both advertising and non-advertising – in place of existing bus shelters throughout the Marrickville Council area. The new shelters will be well positioned within existing bus zones and are designed to be functional, safe, and as resistant as possible to vandalism and graffiti.

It is proposed to replace all existing bus shelters with the new bus shelters throughout the Marrickville Council area (excluding any Council owned or heritage shelters) over the next two years. Should a shelter be located near your property, Adshel are required to provide directly affected residents a minimum of 2 days notice prior to the commencement of works.

Who is conducting the work?

Adshel Street Furniture Pty Ltd has been awarded a contract by Marrickville Council to supply and install new bus shelters throughout the Council area. This work is currently being undertaken progressively throughout the Marrickville Council area. Once the new shelters are installed, any on going maintenance and cleaning will be undertaken on a regular and "as needs" basis by Adshel. The new bus shelters will provide modern and attractive design which will greatly enhance the amenity for community and commuters.

What does the work involve?

The works will involve removal of the existing bus shelter, installation of a new shelter and associated footpath and site works. The new shelters will be installed at approximately the same locations of the existing shelters with some modifications to suit each site. Pedestrian access may be limited across the footpath at these locations while the work is being completed.

The scope of works does not involve the relocation or removal of any bus stops.

How can I see locations of the shelters proposed for replacement?

A map of shelters proposed for replacement can be viewed here:

It is also proposed that – subject to approvals – a number of existing bus stops which currently do not have shelters will be provided with new modern shelters. These bus stop locations are also shown on the map.

How long will it take to complete the work at each site?

Generally, works should be completed within a few days of commencement at each site, weather permitting. However, this may be delayed due to unplanned circumstances. In this event, Council will work closely with Adshel to minimise any the inconvenience this might cause to the residents.

What are the working hours?

Working hours are generally between 7.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
