Marrickville Library and History Services has a large selection of children's books, CDs, DVDs, talking books, and kits (books and CDs) for loan. Our children's collection caters for kids of all ages – from babies, to preschoolers and primary school children.
To celebrate the Frida Kahlo exhibition currently on at the Art Gallery of NSW, Marrickville Library is holding a free workshop that lets you explore your artistic side – Frida style. Collaborate on a series of interactive and imaginative art games and make a 3D self-portrait collage, inspired by the colourful work of the iconic Mexican artist.
Suitable for 5-10 yr. olds, with adult supervision required.
Baby Rhymetime sessions include songs, rhymes, actions and plenty of fun. Aiming to introduce babies and toddlers to literature, baby rhymetime helps develop vital skills in learning to read and communicate. Suitable for babies 0-2 years. More information.
Preschool Storytime is held weekly at Marrickville, Dulwich Hill, Stanmore and St Peters/Sydenham Libraries during school terms. Each session includes stories, songs, rhymes and a fun, simple craft that may require adult help. Suitable for children 2-5 years. More information.
The Magic Yellow Bus is a mobile play group held at local parks in the Marrickville Council area that includes reading, crafts, puzzles, sport and games. The play group is designed for children aged six weeks to 12 years, their parents and carers. More information.
Marrickville and branch libraries are actively supporting schools participating in the 2015 NSW Premier's Reading Challenge.
