Live music and the development of small bars and ancillary businesses are a vital part of the cultural fabric and identity of Sydney's inner west. Live music also encourages other amenity and economic benefits in the area and generates opportunities for the local community to connect and celebrate. Council has made a commitment to support existing and new live music venues across its local government areas to ensure the future growth of live music venues and creative industries in the area.
In 2015, specific initiatives were introduced to support live music in the Marrickville area.
A number of opportunities for local venues offering live music are listed below.
Council is seeking live music operators to join its Live Music Reference Group. The group would be asked to contribute their knowledge of local live music to our programming and assist us in identifying music acts (eg. bands or musicians) for paid performance opportunities in Council's annual program of events.

A number of venues have indicated that the loading and unloading of instruments and music-related equipment into their venues is an issue, with musicians often having to cart large amounts of often heavy equipment significant distances.
