Through local leisure programs and facilities including the Debbie and Abbey Borgia Recreation Centre, local aquatic facilities and the various community halls, Council aims to encourage participation in the various recreational activities available in Marrickville.

A comprehensive and independent research and consultation project undertaken by Council into facilities needs in the Marrickville area. Adopted in April 2013, the final report provides Council with an important tool for effective financial and infrastructure planning for community facilities.

The Recreation Needs Research – Strategic Directions for Marrickville report comprises the most comprehensive independent research and consultation project undertaken by Council into recreation needs, facilities and services in the local area since 1993. It provides Council with an important tool for effective recreation financial and infrastructure planning.
The Marrickville Recreation Policy and Strategy is the result of an extensive process of strategic recreation planning in Marrickville. Using the recommendations of the Recreation Needs Research – Strategic Directions for Marrickville 2012, the document presents a strategic approach to the development of recreation facilities, services and programs across Marrickville for the next five years.
