In February 2007 a fauna study was carried out on 10 sites around the Marrickville LGA by the Australian Museum Business Services. Eight sites were previously surveyed in 1992 and 1996.

There were some surprising discoveries such as a long nosed bandicoot (pictured right) carcass along the Dulwich Hill freight rail corridor; hairs from a swamp wallaby at the same site; two species of bat listed as threatened under State and Commonwealth legislation; a tawny frog mouth owl in Camperdown Cemetery; little grass birds at Tempe Lands; and the red-rumped parrot.

The survey has provided a series of recommendations for Council on how to better manage habitat and open space to protect and expand the fauna found.
