2009 Environment Awards for Businesses and Organisations
Presentation Evening

Where: Steel Park, Illawarra Road, Marrickville South
The winners of the 2009 Environment Awards for Businesses in Marrickville will be announced at a presentation evening next to the Cooks River.
The event will also acknowledge and congratulate the efforts of local businesses and organisations that have worked to achieve their sustainability targets over the last twelve months within the 'target sustainability @ marrickville' program and the Sustainable Advantage program.
The event will be a fantastic opportunity for attendees to meet like-minded business operators from the local area and will provide an occasion for business operators to meet the Mayor, Councillors and staff of Marrickville Council as well as other special guests.
Nominations for Marrickville Council's 2009 Environment Awards for Businesses and Organisations are now closed. Thank you to everybody who nominated a business or organisation for the awards.
Categories
- Water Saver Award
Initiatives to reduce, reuse, or recycle water, e.g. rainwater harvesting, water saving devices, water recycling systems, stormwater protection measures.
- Energy Smart Award
Initiatives to improve energy efficiency or reduce greenhouse gas emissions, e.g. installation of energy saving devices and lighting, automatic sensors, use of renewable energy (Green Power or solar energy).
- Resource Recovery Award (Waste & Recycling)
Initiatives to reduce, reuse, or recycle waste, e.g. composting systems, recycling systems, process changes to eliminate waste or finding alternate uses for waste.
- Sustainability Leadership Award
Recognising strong sustainability leadership across a variety of initiatives. For example, triple bottom line reporting, toxicity reduction, biodiversity enhancement, new environmental products or services, supply chain policy, resource efficiency, ecological foot printing, reduction of packaging, cleaner production.
- Best New Sustainable Business Award
Awarded to the best new business (opened within the past year) who displays the best combination of sustainability initiatives.
