Sustainability Vision

Fresh and Clean Uniform Services has committed to ongoing examinations of its environmental impact with the target of an overall reduction in resource usage and waste.

Fresh and Clean Uniform Services met all their targets for carbon dioxide emissions from electricity use, water imported from outside the catchment use, and waste to landfill in the 2007/08 financial year, receiving awards for both Target Sustainability @ Marrickville and the Sustainability Advantage Program at the 2008 Business Awards.

Carbon dioxide emissions from electricity usage

  • 10% reduction on carbon dioxide emissions from electricity usage by December 2009.
  • 72 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from electricity usage per year is the baseline.
  • To reduce carbon dioxide emissions from electricity Fresh and Clean Uniform Services intend to:
    • Install and invest in efficient machinery on replacement. 
    • Educate staff to use equipment efficiently.
    • Identify opportunities through the Sustainability Advantage program.

Water Imported from Outside the Catchment

  • 10% water reduction target by December 2009.
  • 4584 kLs per year is the baseline water usage (to be verified).
  • To reduce water usage Fresh and Clean Uniform Services intend to:
    • Trial the introduction of Ozone technology in our wash cycles.
    • Trial a water recycling system.
    • Identify opportunities through the Sustainability Advantage program.

Waste to Landfill

  • 10% waste reduction target by December 2009.
  • The waste to landfill baseline is still being verified.
  • Fresh and Clean Uniform Services recycle:
    • Paper and cardboard
    • Coat hangers
    • Uniforms

Fresh and Clean Uniform Services will examine waste minimisation opportunities through the Department of Environment and Climate Change Sustainability Advantage program.

Other sustainability Initiatives

  • Investigate the use of ozone technology in wash cycles to reduce the amount of water and chemical used.
