Petersham RSL Club Summary of BusinessPetersham RSL Club provides food, beverage and entertainment for members and guests. Sustainability VisionSenior Management is currently developing the sustainability vision of Petersham RSL as part of the Department of Environment and Climate Change’s Sustainability Advantage program. Carbon dioxide emissions from electricity usagePetersham RSL Club has committed to 20% reduction on carbon dioxide emissions from electricity for the 2009 calendar year relative to the 2007/08 financial year. The total carbon dioxide emissions for the 2006/07 financial year equates to approximately 2,675 tonnes based on the electricity usage for this period. Petersham RSL has established baseline values for electricity as part of the Sustainability Advantage program. Energy efficiency initiatives that are currently being implemented to reach the reduction target include:
Water Imported from Outside the CatchmentPetersham RSL Club has committed to 20% reduction on water usage for the 2009 calendar year relative to the 2007/08 financial year. The total water usage for the 2006/07 financial year was 23,234kL. Initiatives have already been undertaken to reduce water usage by reviewing and modifying the toilet flushing systems and the kitchen and bathroom taps. The planned reduction target will be met by:
Waste to LandfillPetersham RSL Club has committed to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill by 10% for the 2009 calendar year relative to the 2007/08 financial year. The volume of waste for the 2006/07 financial year was 2,300 m3. Resource (waste) streams currently recycled include:
Waste that is currently going to landfill, which Petersham RSL Club intends to reduce, includes: food scraps, paper hand towels, bottle lids, straws, and one off packaging. Petersham RSL will explore waste minimisation opportunities through the Supply Chain and Resource Efficiency modules as part of the Sustainability Advantage program. Other Sustainability InitiativesSenior management are participating in Marrickville Council’s Sustainability Advantage cluster group. Sustainability Advantage is a program that has been developed by the Department of Environment and Climate Change.
