Summary of business

EcoSphereDesign creates contemporary, residential and commercial building design with an environmental conscience. EcoSphereDesign believes that the spaces we inhabit can and should, nurture and inspire us.

Sustainability Vision

Sustainability is about more than reducing our ecological footprints - it's about our inner-being and our interconnectedness with all things. We wish to nurture this and see the rest fall into place.

Carbon dioxide emissions from electricity usage

Targets achieved

10% reduction on carbon dioxide emissions from electricity usage achieved by purchasing electricity that has 100% Accredited GreenPower.

100% reduction achieved, EcoSphereDesign  has reached carbon neutral for electricity usage.

EcoSphereDesign has met efficiency in electricity usage by:

  • Replacing CRT computer screens;
  • Turning off unused equipment rather than leaving it on standby;
  • Resetting standby and hibernation timeframes for computers; and
  • Using compact fluorescent lighting; and
  • 100% reduction from October 2008 by switching to a 100% Accredited GreenPower product.

Baseline

3.4 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from electricity for the year ending 30 June 2007 was attributable to EcoSphereDesign.

EcoSphereDesign is a home office business so the electricity usage for the premises has been split evenly between the business and home.

Water Imported from Outside the Catchment

EcoSphereDesign will not focus on water as it is a service-based industry with minimal water usage.

Waste to Landfill

Targets Achieved

46% of resources (waste) are diverted from landfill.

As EcoSphereDesign is a home office business, resources are recycled through Council’s domestic recycling service. 46% of waste is diverted from landfill based on recycling volumes compared to waste volumes for Marrickville Council’s domestic recycling and waste service.

Future Targets

10% reduction of resources (waste) to landfill

Ecosphere plans to meet this target by implementing an organic waste system on premises (e.g. worm farm, compost or bokashi bucket).

Baseline

7.3 cubic metres of waste goes to landfill based the volume of domestic waste removed from the premises. This includes waste from the home and the office.

6.2 cubic metres of resources is removed from the premises for recycling. Marrickville Council’s recycling service is co-mingled.
