What is Council Doing for Sustainability?

Council has ongoing programs that cover all aspects of ecologically sustainable development.

For businesses, industry and the commercial sector, we have the target sustainability @ marrickville program and the Environmental Business Awards.

We have also a comprehensive and award-winning internal Environmental Management Systems program to reduce Council's impact on the environment. Council makes sure that all staff are trained so they carry out their work causing minimal harm to the local or surrounding environment.

The Watershed

The Watershed Sustainability Resource Centre is a joint initiative of Marrickville Council and the City of Sydney. Staff at the Watershed can advise both residents and businesses alike on simple, cost-effective ideas for supporting sustainable living and business - including greywater reuse, rainwater tanks, worm farming, energy and water efficiency, recycling, sustainable housing and more.
