School Environmental Education Program
Our Place

As part of Marrickville Council's commitment to Local Agenda 21 Sustainability Strategy we offer a range of sustainability and ecological education support to local schools, including Pre-schools, Primary and Secondary Schools. Marrickville Council provides an innovative Environmental Education program, which services schools, community groups and the wider community. Council provides support for schools to participate in national environmental initiatives, such as, Clean Up Australia Day, National Tree Day & Walk Safely to School Day. This year the focus will be assisting schools to set up a No-Dig vegetable gardens and establishing a Marrickville Environmental Educators Network

Council is keen to assist schools with their School's Environment Management Plan, which is required by the State Government's Environmental Education Policy. Council also provides assistance to up to 7 schools per year for environmental projects through the School Financial Assistance Program

Workshops

Council's Environmental Education Officer can visit your school to assist with the set up of sustainable initiatives such as:

  • No-dig gardens for healthy eating;
  • Worm farm & compost bins to minimize waste,
  • Native gardens to increase habitat

Workshops on the above topics can be organised with both students, teachers and parents involvement.
