National Tree Day

Sunday 2 August 2009

National Tree Day

Marrickville Council invites citizens and seeks the support of the community to celebrate National Tree Planting Day on Sunday, 2 August 2009.

National Tree Day is organised by Planet Ark in association with Toyota and AMP Foundation.

The community planting of native species will be held from 10am to 12noon at The Grove at Tempe Reserve - which is between the Cooks River Valley Garden and the Village Green, Holbeach Ave, Tempe. This is the same site as last year but it needs some infill planting, focusing on shrubs and groundcovers, to complement the trees that were planted in 2008. All plants are supplied by the Marrickville Community Nursery.

Marrickville Council aims to increase biodiversity in the local area by 10% by 2010. National Tree Day provides a wonderful opportunity for all Australians to take a positive and active role in helping protect and improve our environment. By planting native trees and shrubs we can help to combat climate change, provide food and shelter for our wildlife and beautify our surroundings.
