Stormwater On Your Property

Water that runs off your property can cause pollution of our waterways as it travels over dirty and polluted surfaces, picking up sediments, litter, organic matter and chemicals as it goes.

You can reduce the impact of stormwater coming from your property by:

  • Limiting the area of impermeable surface
  • Harvesting rainwater from roofs and hard surfaces
  • Creating rain gardens at the bottom of slopes
  • Ensuring sediments, leaves and grass clippings are collected and composted

This can be achieved through a process called Water Sensitive Urban Design which aims to sustainably manage water to achieve both conservation and water quality outcomes.

Flooding
Any modifications or landscaping that you undertake on your property must be in compliance with Council’s Stormwater and on site detention code, which has been developed to ensure that both private and community properties are protected from the risk of flooding.

Flooding is a real risk in urban catchments such as Marrickville and must be taken seriously.
