Honouring Our Local Heroes

Do you know an ordinary person who does extraordinary things? Perhaps they are an inspirational role model for young people in our community, lend a helping hand to the elderly or have worked to improve our local environment.

If you know someone who has made our community a better place to live, nominate them for Marrickville Council's Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year Awards. Nominations are now open for the prestigious awards, which honour those who have made a significant difference in our community.

The award recipients are selected based on the following criteria:

  • The nominee must have contributed significantly to their community in any field;
  • The contribution will demonstrate an active concern for the rights, welfare and wellbeing and/or the advancement of others;
  • A person may be considered who has displayed an act of compassion, generosity or bravery; and
  • The nominee should be an inspirational role model for the Marrickville community.

Individuals may not nominate themselves and all nominees must be Australian citizens who have lived in the Marrickville local government area for at least 12 months.

The recipients of the awards will be announced at Council's Australia Day Celebration at Enmore Park in January 2010.

You can download a nomination form below. Alternatively, a hard copy is available from Council's Citizens' Service Centre at 2-14 Fisher Street, Petersham. The closing date for applications is Friday 11 December 2009.
