2007 Community SurveySummary and ResultsMarrickville Council wished to examine community attitudes and satisfaction on a broad range of issues, and at the same time provide residents with an opportunity to help shape the future of Marrickville by providing input to the Annual Management Plan. Issues included:
A survey of 600 residents in the Marrickville Local Government Area, with names selected electronically to form a demographically representative sample, was undertaken by telephone. The survey was conducted during the period 29th October to 15th November from 4:30pm to 8:30pm, Monday to Thursday. The survey was conducted by independent researcher Micromex who, together with Marrickville Council, developed a questionnaire based primarily on a survey form used in the 2005 and 2006 community studies. The survey report concludes: An issue that is prominent in this survey which requires attention is the concern relating to cleanliness, littering and dumping of rubbish. This is seen by the residents as a high priority area that Council could improve on. Council should be encouraged by the satisfaction ratings recorded in this survey which were little changed from 2006 and still well above the benchmark from other LGAs. The ‘community’ aspect of Marrickville LGA and the support by Council is evident in the criteria residents consider that Council is doing well and should be continued. These include waste and recycling, festivals and cultural events, parks and the environment (open spaces) and streetscaping. Marrickville Council thanks citizens who participated in the surveys. 2007 Ratepayers Mini-SurveyIn addition to the 2007 Community Survey, Council also conducted for the first time a mini-survey of ratepayers, sent with the October 2007 rate notice. The survey included two key questions from the 2007 Community Survey (telephone): 'What is your overall satisfaction with Marrickville Council?" and "What do you think should be Marrickville Council's highest priority in the next 12-18 months? Over 550 responses were received to January 2008. The survey of ratepayers indicates good levels of satisfaction with the Council by ratepayers of 65% (compared to the general 2007 Community Survey of 73%).
