Background to the Draft Tennyson Street Subcatchment Management Plan

Subcatchment Planning

One of Marrickville Council's key priorities is sustainable water management for and with the people of Marrickville. Council is working to create management plans for each of its 22 subcatchments and is encouraging everyone in the community to get involved. The subcatchment management plans are designed to target the specific needs of each community with its unique land use, demographic and environmental issues.

Subcatchment planning includes detailed profiling of the subcatchments to help understand the social, physical and organisational contexts that shape the way planning is carried out. So far, this has been done for four Marrickville subcatchments.

Planning the Tennyson Street Subcatchment

Planning for the Tennyson Street Subcatchment in Dulwich Hill started in January 2008. The subcatchment community has been working with Marrickville Council and other local land managers to build a neighbourhood vision and subcatchment plan for a sustainable water future.

In July and August 2008, residents, community groups and businesses from the subcatchment created the Tennyson Street Subcatchment Vision for 2050.

Vision ideas from the workshops were included in the Tennyson Street Subcatchment Community Forum on Thursday 7 and 14 August where participants identified what everyone - government, individuals, business and the community - has to do to make a sustainable water future a reality.

Draft Tennyson Street Subcatchment Management Plan

Council has now prepared the Draft Tennyson Street Subcatchment Management Plan to achieve the vision. The plan includes the draft goals and actions originating from the workshops and meetings that have since been further developed.
