Borrowing

Library members can borrow up to 30 items on their card, with the following limitations:

  • 6 video cassettes
  • 6 compact discs
  • 6 DVDs
  • 6 magazines
  • 6 school resources
  • 6 Talking books

Loan Period

  • 3 weeks for DVDs and videos
  • 3 week for school resources - no renewals
  • Reference collection and local history Items are not available to borrow. 

You can reserve an item that is already on loan to another member.

Renewals

Renewals are available for all items (except school resources), and are conditional upon no other library member requesting the book.

  • A limit of two renewals per item
  • Renewals can be made over the phone or via My Account, click here.
  • Overdue items cannot be renewed

Item Request Form

Marrickville Library Service can obtain materials from other libraries within Australia through the Inter-Library loan system. Inter-Library loans can also be requested using our item request form below. Library members are also encouraged to make purchase suggestions.

Multicultural Language Collection

The library has a comprehensive multicultural language collection. Titles are available in Greek, Vietnamese, Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese.

Other languages are available through the State Library Multicultural Language Service.

Home Library Service

The library provides a Home Library Service for the elderly and people who are incapacitated and cannot make it to the library.

Events and Activities

The library hold many events throughout the year for adults, youth and children.

Information Services

All four libraries maintain:

  • Reference collections
  • Student study collections
  • Directory of community organisations
  • Legal information access centres
  • Online database service - accessed either in the library or through your home computer with internet connection.


Computer and Internet Access

Computers are available at the library for word processing and Internet access. Bookings are essential and there is a limit of one hour per person per day. You must be a member to book these computers. Bookings can be made in person or by phone.

Express Internet access is available at Marrickville Library and branches where non-members or members may use the internet for 20 minutes only.

Access to our Internet facilities are free. You must not use our internet computers for illegal, actionable or criminal purposes. You must not access explicit content or content that degrades a specific gender, ethnic or racial group. All disks must be scanned for viruses before use.

Email/Internet Classes

Marrickville Library provides regular basic Email/Internet introductory classes in community languages.

Children and Youth Services

Marrickville Library has a comprehensive children and youth collection. This includes easy reading picture books, school resources, multicultural language children and youth books, toys, and games.

Also available are Storytime Sessions, holiday activities and an Education Support Program.
