Finding Out About Your HouseCouncil Archivist position vacantPlease note that Council's Archivist position will be vacant from 13 October 2009 and Council cannot process any requests for house histories for completion until a permanent replacement is found. Council will make known when this service is available again. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. The reasons for knowing the social history of a property are as varied as the houses themselves. House owners may wish to discover the name of their house or when the house was built in order to assist in the restoration of a property. Others may want to locate the house where a relative may have lived and some researchers are keen to research the development of a street, sub division or suburb. Real Estate agents in recent years have used the information to build the image of properties when selling the house. Historians or architects may be interested in researching a site in order to prepare a conservation plan for a heritage property as part of a development application. You can either research a property yourself or for a fee the Council Archivist will research your property. For more information, please contact our Citizens' Service Centre on 9335 2222. |
