Waste to Art Competition for SchoolsMarrickville Council is hosting the Waste to Art Competition and is inviting high school and TAFE students in the Marrickville Council area to participate. This exciting and innovative challenge invites students to turn unwanted items into an art form of their choice, from sculptures to clothing. Categories include one of the following: sculpture, craftwork, video or a functional object made out of recycled materials. The purpose of the project is to encourage the concept of reduce, reuse & recycle whilst challenging attitudes about waste and what valuable items are thrown away. Entries should be submitted to Council, no later than 26th October 2009 via mail. Please ensure all submissions have the student's name and class on their work and attention the submissions to:

The school with the most number of entries will win a $500 Dick Smith Electronics voucher. The winning school and entries will be selected by the Mayor, General Manager and a representative of the Resource Recovery Services section. Winning entries will be announced and published in the December edition of Council's quarterly magazine Marrickville Matters. Terms and conditions:
